Shindai Aikido Dojo is a Martial Arts Training Facility
We have created an aesthetically unique, highly functional training environment. There is nothing superfluous to the martial training space that greets our guests. You will find no trophies or medals adorning the walls, since we are not sports competition or profit based. Shindai is a well appointed and carefully maintained space for the teaching of traditional Japanese Martial Arts.
As part of Shindai’s mission, we have always functioned as a Budokan. We support the teaching of other traditional Japanese martial arts in our facility, all that share cultural origin, principles and perspectives. There is great mutual benefit in the company of our outstanding partners from those traditional Japanese disciplines including: Judo, Karate, Kendo, Daito Ryu Aikijujitsu, Danzan Jujitsu, Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu, and Toyama Ryu.
Whatever the art, the principles and fundamentals are the same, as we train as perpetual beginners. The students of Shindai Aikido are our main focus, their growth our validation. All adult ages, genders, diverse backgrounds, religions, professions and interests come together on our floor to challenge ourselves and their partners through the art of conflict resolution. It is a process that takes effort and a path that has no end.
Dedication and capability are recognized with rank. Over time the goal of Yudansha rank is attainable. Yudansha ( “yu,” “dan,” and “sha”) translates simply to a high-ranking person. Most associate that to “Black Belt”. Shindai dojo is home to more than two dozen active, dedicated Yudansha from 1st dan to 6th dan.
“Aikido is a great martial art but only as good as what you put into it. The instructors at Shindai ensure you understand what’s being taught and they care how the techniques are presented.” – Phil Van Tresse Sensei, Tomiki/8thDan
