Class Descriptions
Fundamentals Classes
These classes have a focus on introducing Aikido training procedures, Budo principles, and the dojo standards/etiquette. Emphasis is on Ukemi and physical mechanics using standard ASU techniques.
These classes are designed for students with less experience. If you have never trained Aikido or any martial art before, these classes are the place to begin. You are welcome however, to participate in all other classes as well.
Concepts Classes
Everyone is welcome to participate in these classes, regardless of experience. The teaching will focus on a more experienced understanding of Aiki concepts and movement.
Buki Waza / Weapons Classes
Aikido Weapons study, and the integration of weapons principles as they relate to movement in ASU kata, Aiki and empty hand training. At the discretion of the teacher, any class may spend a part or most of a class on weapons study.
Senior Instructor Focus
Brian Canin Sensei – Mondays
ASU 6th Dan / Senior Instructor – Ueshiba Juku
Steve Fasen Sensei – Tuesdays and Thursdays
Chief Instructor of Shindai Dojo – ASU 6th Dan / Senior Instructor – Ueshiba Juku
The focus of these classes is on unification principles, developing the Aiki interaction, weapons handling and integration into the Aiki Body, along with ASU Weapons Kata. We look to build a deeper understanding through unification mechanics to enhance Aikido dialogue, including Aiki internal concepts.
All are welcome to attend. Individual attention will be given to everyone at their experience level.
Dimitri Deglas Sensei – Daito Ryu Aiki jujitsu – Saturdays
This Daito Ryu Aiki jujitsu class is available to all Aikido students. It is held to articulate, through movement, the mechanical and internal foundations of Aikido. Historically foundational to the evolution of Aikido, Dimitri Sensei provides his experienced perspectives after years of study in Aikido and Daito Ryu Ginjukai under Okamoto Seigo Sensei.
“Made to feel welcome from the time I walked into the dojo. Had a great workout and shared ideas and techniques with some talented friendly people. Would recommend this school to anyone interested in learning both the physical and mental aspects of martial arts.” –
