Travel & Lodging Considerations

If you are coming to Orlando, you will find that Shindai Dojo benefits from an international destination infrastructure. The airports are as easy as they come. There are two area airports, Sanford International and OIA, but Orlando International Airport (OIA) is likely the easiest. When you get here do not expect the transportation services of a good European city, or even the benefits of larger compact US cities. Local bus transportation is spotty and unreliable for getting to our dojo. There are no trains that service us. The Orlando area is a loosely knit example of urban sprawl. Sorry.

(MCO) is how you will find (Orlando International Airport) when you book your flights. Rental cars are available at the airport. The rates are good if you book ahead, and they are likely your best bet.  Shuttle services and cabs are prohibitively expensive. Check with lodging options for hotel shuttles, which may get you to the area and mitigate some cost.

Orlando Sanford International Airport. 1200 Red Cleveland Boulevard  Sanford, FL 32773 (407) 585-4000.  Located about 35-45 minutes from the dojo. Does not have the traffic of OIA.  Check as an option for flights and prices.

There are many many Hotels and Motels within a five mile radius of our dojo.  Orlando is world recognized tourist destination, lodging options abound. Most accommodations are clean, comfortable, and are reasonably priced, but do your homework. The major attractions are within one half hour of the dojo by car, so it gives you an idea of travel time if you choose to lodge a bit further away. There are seasonal price variations, so it is always worth checking around.

We do not directly endorse any lodging options since there are so many, but if you find lodging that you are questioning , we can check it out for you. If you have a positive experience, let us know and we will list it for the benefit of others in the future.

A special rate for Shindai Aikikai has been arranged with this hotel for 2017 .  The rates for 2018 are $79.00 per night for a single king or two queen size beds, and a hot breakfast. If you can beat that… do so. Depending on travel companions… this room will sleep several people making the cost average price excellent.  Reference Shindai  for the special rate when you book.

(If you are a typical Aikidoka and have AARP membership still check rates. They may even be able to beat the $79.00 per night because they feel sorry for us.  SF)

Proximity to the dojo and access to other things in the area makes this a bargain choice. Reservations can be made by calling (407) 645-5600 ext. 328 or emailing sales at

This hotel is not the Ritz, but it is newly remodeled,  clean, inexpensive, includes breakfast, is close to food and entertainment, and close to the dojo. For those who travel with pets (umm… why?) it is also a pet friendly hotel.  A good bargain………. 5 minutes from the dojo.
