Shindai is closed at the present time, and will remain closed, until reason and circumstance change our determination. Our mission is the training of Aikido and Aiki for the benefit of our students, which begins with providing a safe environment in which to learn. Martial Arts is not based on techniques to cause or prepare for death, but techniques to enhance how we live and interact. This is an active mindful process of self defense through the training of Mind/Spirit/Body. Someday soon we will be able to meet again in one place for kata geiko. Until then train safely where you are. You have all the tools you need.
Steve Fasen Sensei (Senior Instructor and Chief instructor of Shindai dojo) and Brian Canin Sensei (Shindai Dojo Senior Instructor) have received ASU and Aikikai promotion to the rank of 6thDan (Rokudan) . The ranks were recommended in 2017 by the ASU through M. Saotome Shihan, and announced internationally during the annual Kigami Biraki celebrations at Aikikai Hombu Dojo Japan on January 14, 2018.
Saotome Shihan presented the certificates formally at Shindai Dojo in April of 2018.

Dr. David Jones (6thDan) ASU / Senior Instructor / Jan 13, 2016
Shindai Aikikai Aikido Dojo has a presence, a reputation of integrity, in the Aikido community. The dojo is not only a unique space, it harbors a unique spirit as well. All of this is due to our founder, our Sensei, our teacher and leader, Dennis Hooker Sensei. His legacy is significant and lies in the hearts of the students that he has directed over the years. We are his legacy.
A custom made bell is rung daily at the beginning of each class (makuso) in remembrance, and always will be.
We will miss him always. RIP
This memorial hangs on the wall of the Shindai Tea Room.
Dr. David Jones spent decades helping to solidify a hightened awareness in all who trained at Shindai. His singular understanding of the Budo arts, coupled with his encyclopedic knowledge of the human condition, made his articulation enlightenment. We will miss his voice, instruction, humor, music, intensity… friendship.
Shindai is honored to be a contributing and supportive part of the new ASU Organization. This legacy membership organization is an established federal 501c3, with direct association to Hombu Aikidai dojo, that continues the work of M. Saotome Shihan with his permission and assistance.
