Brian Canin Sensei (ASU Godan), Saotome Ueshiba Juku
Brian Canin, President of Canin Associates, is a native of Johannesburg, South Africa. He earned his Architecture Degree from the University of Witwaterstrand and his Master’s Degree in Urban Design from Harvard University. Brian’s business is a 60 person Orlando-based design firm that specializes in providing solution-oriented community planning, urban design, and landscape architecture. Brian has an extensive background in the design of successful mixed-use communities across the U.S. and Europe. Brian’s “passion for place making” has led him to focus on “Community Based Design” in both the firm’s master planned communities as well as hospitality and resort projects.
In addition, when not focused on a growing business, or traveling extensively with his lovely wife, Brian is a leader in community support organizations and charities. His philanthropic nature and work with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida is particularly remarkable. He is also a principle contributor and member of the Aiki Atlas foundation. In his spare time Brian has been accused of being a fairly good skier and sailor as well.
Brian Sensei started his martial arts involvements in South Africa as a youth. He started training Aikido in 1988. He has been a Shindai student since 1989. Brian received Godan rank from Mitsugi Saotome Shihan in 2010. He continues to train regularly. Brian is a senior student and one of the senior instructors at Shindai Dojo.
Brian lives in Winter Park Florida.
